Online Mentorship

About Nic Thurman

Bringing classical oil painting back to life.

I believe painting great is not about natural talent — it’s about vision, timeless principles, and devotion to the craft.

My mission is to help painters rediscover the techniques that made the Old Masters unforgettable — and to build a life rooted in beauty, discipline, and meaning.

My Story

I was once a frustrated painter.

Too many artists were making painting harder than it needed to be — complex theories, vague advice, and methods that led nowhere.

Everything changed when I stripped painting back to its essentials: value, structure, and purpose.
That pursuit led me to study with Odd Nerdrum, where I discovered that true mastery isn’t just about technique — it begins with philosophy. It was there I realized how deeply the modern art world had twisted the values of classical painting.

Now, through my online courses, workshops, and community Kitsch Town Live, I teach the timeless methods to painters worldwide — from beginners painting their first portrait to professionals refining their craft.

Why I Teach

Most painting instruction today is either too vague or too academic.

You leave with more theories than skill, and very little clarity on what truly matters.

I started teaching because I believe anyone can learn to paint well through a structured approach rooted in timeless values and daily practice.

  • You don’t need a degree — you need a method and discipline.
  • Painting is a craft, not a mystery and not natural talent.
  • Progress comes from structure, focus, and repetition.
  • Timeless painting still matters and always will.
